Description

Visconti Arte Mudéjar fountain pen is made of ivory colored resin combine with classic gold-plated and enameled bridge-shaped clip and the gold-plated logo on the cap top. Two decorative bands in sepia on the cap and an image of a building on the barrel in the same color highlight the linear shapes typical of the Mudèjar style. The engraved designs have been executed using the scrimshaw technique, which involves cutting into the resin with an extremely sharp blade and filling the engraved lines with ink. This technique was once used to decorate ivory walking sticks, knife handles and rifle butts. Arte Mudèjar Aragon’s is Visconti’s tribute to Zaragoza, the capital of Aragon and the Ebro Valley, there was a real overlaying of cultures and art styles in this city, with Islamic art merging with Romanesque and Gothic to produce Mudèjar, which remains to this day the epitome of Spanish art. As an expression of a society made up of different cultures and lifestyles, Mudèjar art can be seen as the art of peaceful coexistence. It has its roots in both Islamic architecture as well as the styles of Christian cathedrals. It also draws on certain elements of Hebrew architecture. Its Islamic decorative elements underscore the plans of Christian architecture, while its Christian decorative elements combine with typically Islamic architectural features, such as horseshoe-shaped arches. Mud jar is therefore both a style of architecture and a decorative art  although debate still rages in Spain on whether the term is just a synonym of “Mozarabic”  that is, a style in which Christian architects incorporated Islamic elements into their buildings. This lovely fountain pen is limited to only 600 pieces worldwide.
